There is no perfect way to start. This is nothing like opening a song. I got so hyper focused on crafting rhymes that I forgot what it's like to just write freely. I don't want to call this a blog or anything like that because I'm not one of those people. They are good at what they do. These are just the things going through my brain as I go through the process. There's no format or set schedule. That's why it's labeled my thoughts. This is another outlet. Who knows where it might take me.
I completed an album. I didn't plan it. It just kind of happened. I feel like it's more of a compilation because it's really just a collection of songs I've been sitting on. They needed to be finished so I could move on to other things. In my opinion, the music flows like an album and each song holds it's own weight in contributing to the overall theme. There is no fluff, it's all pure and raw.
This is a big deal for me because I feel like I've been liberated from myself. We can be our own worse enemies, getting in our own way. I decided I'm done with that. I will let you know I'm working on 2 other projects now that this one is done. I'm not going to tell you what they are though.
One thing I have a serious problem with is artwork. I suck at anything visual. Trying to find the right visual representation of a title and concept and actually have it look good is a challenge I feel I have yet to successfully overcome. Don't expect any crazy visuals from me anytime soon. I got pretty much everything else locked down. I make my own beats. I write, arrange, record, and edit the songs. I engineer the track. I upload the songs to the distributor. I copyright and publish the music. Basically, anything Grimeyology is all me. All of this but for the life of me I can't get a grip on putting out a dope image. I had to let that out.
I feel good about this album. I feel like it's the right time for it. In a way, I like that I waited so long to drop these songs. The energy is perfect for the climate. People are very aware of what's going on nowadays. There's no more hiding it. The overall consciousness of people is collectively elevating. The mainstream was never the way to go but until now they have always been able to manipulate the majority of the population. This project goes its own way. It's an explanation of how I see things and how I free myself from the evils and try to do the right thing while I'm physically here.
This type of music is the kind that can outlive the artist by many years because even though it looks like our society is evolving, it still moves very slow. We can all have a voice and this is how I choose to use mine. This is my Freedom Design.
